Joanna Fitzick

Member of the Board - Treasurer

Social Worker, Grant Writer, & Consultant

Born and raised in a small town on the Jersey Shore, Joanna was reared in a unique environment that shaped a lifelong interest in the intersections of race and class. Coming from a modest background and living alongside a upper middle-class Black community, she developed a keen intellectual curiosity about the dynamics of privilege and communication across social divides. A scholarship to St. John’s College, a prestigious institution, further deepened this exploration, providing the foundation for a thoughtful and reflective approach to social issues.

Movement has always been central to Joanna's life. With over 30 years of experience in contact improvisation, she processes emotions and communicates profound truths through the language of the body. This passion has informed a unique perspective on how individuals unconsciously express their feelings about race and class through physical presence and actions.

Professionally, Joanna worked as a social worker, committed to fostering understanding and change in her community. She presently resides in Baltimore. She treasures time with two beloved sons, a wonderful granddaughter, and three honorary grandchildren. As a devoted Quaker, Joanna draws strength and guidance from her faith.
